Protecting the Health of Black Women and Birthing People and Their Babies

More than 100 people attended our recent convening at Trinity Commons about maternal health in NYC and the pilot Maternal Home Collaborative (MHC). Health Department leaders and subject matter experts from the community explored how the MHC will reduce maternal mortality and morbidity through a four-pillar approach: Maternal Medical Home; Neighborhood Stress-Free Zones; Pregnancy Support Professionals; Child First + Intensive Outpatient Program. The pilot has the potential to make meaningful progress toward the City’s goal of reducing Black maternal mortality by 10% by 2030. Read the press release on our blog.

As First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright said at the opening of the convening, “We want to make New York City the safest and best place for a Black woman to have a baby in the country, but we cannot do that without a collective effort – without community and without philanthropy, and this gathering is a step on the journey.”
