20 year celebration

Over the past year, we have celebrated the 20th anniversary of FPHNYC’s founding following the September 11 attacks with a mission to help protect and improve the health of all New Yorkers. First, on May 18, 2022, Mayor Adams issued a proclamation of “Fund for Public Health Day,” then in November,  a team of runners represented FPHNYC in the 2022 TCS NYC Marathon, and in late March we celebrated our partnership with the NYC Health Department at a reception where we honored one of our founding board members, Pamela Brier.

We have a gallery of photos online from the March celebration, including the presentation of a citation from Mayor Adams recognizing founding board member Pamela Brier’s 40+ years of public health service to NYC, including more than two decades as a member of the City’s Board of Health. It was wonderful to have the citation presented by First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright, Chief Advisor to the Mayor Ingrid Lewis-Martin, and City Health Commissioner and FPHNYC Board Chair Dr. Ashwin Vasan.

The importance of FPHNYC to New York City is best told by the New York City Health Commissioners who worked with and, as our board chairs, helped lead FPHNYC over the past two decades. Watch this 5-minute video featuring Drs. Thomas Frieden, Thomas Farley, Mary Bassett, Oxiris Barbot, and Dave Chokshi.

The history and accomplishments of FPHNYC are nicely summarized in the 5-minute slideshow you can watch as a video.

We are so appreciative of everyone who has helped us plan and celebrate FPHNYC’s 20th anniversary year. A special thank you to Bloomberg Philanthropies for going above and beyond in hosting last week’s event.

Our celebration of FPHNYC’s 20th anniversary was not an endpoint but the beginning of a new phase of our partnership with the Health Department, the philanthropic community, and all the visionary individuals who have contributed to our success these past 20 years. We are grateful for your support and partnership and look forward to the next 20 years as we continue our work in service to all New Yorkers!
