Zeroing in on preventing the spread of Zika

The City’s plan to combat Zika combines clinical services such as testing New Yorkers for the virus, mosquito control techniques, and the Fight Back NYC awareness campaign.

What you should do in mosquito season to protect yourself and others:

  • Use insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus (not for children under age three).
  • Wear protective clothing including long sleeves, long pants, and closed shoes.
  • Empty standing water from flowerpots, buckets, birdbaths, pet dishes and other containers.
  • Install window screens in your home to keep mosquitoes out.
